Multi project wafer (MPW) runs are a common practice within the semiconductor ecosystem. Universities, R&D centres and start ups, which usually only need a few prototypes and operate with tight budgets, take advantage of this service to obtain devices at an affordable entry point. Now, Graphenea partners with the 2D Experimental Pilot Line (2D-EPL) to offer an MPW run with a novel process flow.
A new peer-reviewed scientific publication in the journal 2D Materials from researchers at Graphene Flagship partner Fraunhofer ISI provides insights into the projected development of the emerging graphene market. Meta-market analysis identifies composites, batteries and electronics as major application areas likely to drive the overall development of the graphene market towards mass production.
The Graphene Flagship is sailing on to new horizons, under a different funding structure that adapts to the widening European ecosystem. Bringing together 118 academic and industrial partners in 12 research and innovation projects and 1 coordination and support project with a combined budget of nearly €100M, the Graphene Flagship initiative will continue to advance Europe’s lead in 2D materials.
Graphene Flagship’s annual conference, Graphene Week, will take place at Gothia Towers in Gothenburg, Sweden, on 4 to 8 September 2023. The event will mark the 10-year anniversary of the Graphene Flagship and announces the results of a highly anticipated economic impact report.
The Graphene Flagship will participate in Euro Nano Forum 2023, which will be held in Lund, Sweden, from 11 to 13 June
Graphenest and Hubron have entered a strategic partnership to explore the development and commercialization of graphene-based polymer masterbatch and compounds
The 2D Experimental Pilot Line (2D-EPL), a project grown from the Graphene Flagship, has launched its first customisable wafer run. As one of five multi-project wafer (MPW) runs, this first phase targets sensor applications. Companies, universities and research institutes can include their designs as dies on joint wafers, to test their ideas for devices on a larger scale at relatively low costs.
Graphene Flagship and partner Emberion has raised €6 million in funding to further develop their infrared imaging business. Currently, Emberion is one of the leaders in the development of these technologies, enabled by graphene and other layered materials.
Andreas Isacsson shares the successes of the project, which investigates heat and charge transport in composite materials Funded by the FLAG-ERA Joint Transnational Call 2017, Graphene Flagship Partnering Project MECHANIC uses modelling and computer simulations to investigate what happens when graphene-based materials are incorporated into polymer composites. Project Leader Andreas Isacsso
The successful FLAG-ERA projects will expand the current research on graphene and related materials and the collaborations within the Graphene Flagship to develop new graphene-enabled innovations.
Raul Arenal, ARAID Researcher and Group Leader at Graphene Flagship partner the University of Zaragoza, Spain, used electron microscopy to study the changes taking place during GO’s reduction. His two recent papers could help scientists to design new materials with carefully tailored properties. What happens to graphene oxide when we reduce it?Graphene oxide (GO) is now commonly used i
Graphene Flagship Space Champion Carlo Iorio will advise EU ministers on space science Carlo Iorio, Senior Researcher at the Microgravity Research Centre at Graphene Flagship partner Université Libre de Bruxelles in Belgium, has been appointed by the European Commission as an expert on Defence Industry and Space (DEFIS).Since 2020 Iorio has been the Graphene Flagship Space Champion. As
Graphene Flagship scientist Xinliang Feng shares his views on the future of graphene and our project with us. Today, we interview Xinliang Feng, the Graphene Flagship Leader for Functional Foams and Coatings. Feng joined our project at the very beginning of our ramp-up phase, when researchers throughout Europe were sharing ideas and shaping the structure of one of the most ambitious endeav
In this interview, Palermo shares his views on research, innovation and collaboration, and speculates on where the next successes of graphene and related materials will come from. Vincenzo Palermo is one of the nine scientists who wrote the initial proposal of the Graphene Flagship. A few years later, he became the project’s Vice-Director, leading our project into a new phase of innovative
In October 2020, the Graphene Flagship launched a second project funded by the European Commission: the 2D Experimental Pilot Line (2D-EPL). This project is working to establish a European ecosystem for the prototype production of graphene and related material (GRM)-based electronics, photonics and sensors.
Patterning small and sharp geometries for the quantum technologies of the future
Funded by the European Commission, this €20 million project will enable large volume production of electronic devices based on two-dimensional materials.
Korean researchers at Samsung and UNIST led collaboration with Graphene Flagship to develop ultrathin boron nitride films for new electronics.
Graphene Flagship researchers reported a significant step forward in growing monoisotopic hexagonal boron nitride at atmospheric pressure for the production of large and very high-quality crystals.
